Hello! I'm John Brown.

My career is as a developer, and my personal emphasis is on creative technology. I have used code to make generative art for many years, pushing standard forms and algorithms into beautiful, artistic shapes.

More than anything, I want to make beautiful things that are intended to be held and used. I have worked in mixed media for many years, with glass, metal, wood, acrylic, often iterating on the same designs across multiple surfaces. I have used math and digital tools to make pattens with these materials, from lasers to routers to etching.

Then, I discovered ceramics in 2023. A medium that is organic and volatile, but can be made stable with the right conditions. I have spent every day since then experimenting and thinking about how to use math and technology combined with traditional techniques to make interesting objects.

Ceramics has truly been an unlock in my life, giving me the ability to express my creativity in a medium that can hold up to being used and well loved for years and years.
